The Process

First of all, thank you for visiting my small, handmade soap boutique! I am so excited to be sharing my thoughtfully handcrafted products with you.

Earthlee products are made ONLY with ingredients from the earth. They are scented with pure essential oils and naturally colored with clays and botanicals. Each batch is poured using the traditional cold process method. This means, the soap is made by combining oils with sodium hydroxide (lye), causing a chemical reaction called saponification.

Here are a few things I use to add color to my soap:

Green – French Green clay, Kelp powder

Purple – Brazilian Purple clay

Yellow – Brazilian Gold clay

Blue – Indigo powder

Pink – Rose clay

Brown/Red – Moroccan Red clay

Black – Charcoal

White – Kaolin clay

Orange – Carrot, Turmeric

Brown – Cocoa powder

Another cool soap fact!

It is pretty well known that soap can be made with milk.. Surely you’ve seen goat milk soap somewhere on the market before. Well, milk is just one of the many foods (including fruits, veggies, and even eggs!) that can be added to handmade soap. The saponification process preserves these ingredients allowing for all their natural vitamins and minerals to compliment the final product. For example, carrots are full of Beta Carotene which is a very beneficial antioxidant.

If you have any questions about how Earthlee soap is made, feel free to shoot me an email or find me on social media and send me a direct message!

About Me

My name is Courtney, and I am the maker behind the soaps. I started pouring soap in 2016 to sell at a small farmers market in West Michigan. Once I started, I was hooked! I love the chemistry in the soap making process and I love that I am able to share handcrafted, minimal ingredient products with you.

If you haven’t already tried artisan soap, trust me, you won’t regret it. And your skin will be ever grateful for the switch to a chemical free product!
